THE URBAN FOUNDRY

The Urban Foundry Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

This year, we ended our anniversary at The Urban Foundry. Expecting the place to be rather empty, it being a Tuesday night; we didn’t find it necessary to make a reservation. Boy, were we wrong! The place was packed to the hilt. Good thing, we managed to get the last seats at the large community table.

TUF is designed to resemble a foundry, so a lot of rustic metalwork in strewn around the place. The menu is comprised almost entirely of Indian and fusion Indian food, albeit served in exceedingly interesting ways. The pricing is slightly on the higher side, but then most other lounges are priced similarly in Pune.

We began the night with 2 cocktails – ‘Chemical Locha’ (house rum, passion fruit, peach & orange juice + rosemary + bitters) and ‘Knuckle Up’ (House vodka + lemongrass + pomegranate+ lime).

We ordered the much acclaimed ‘Soya chaap’ as the appetiser.

My take – The Chemical Locha (350++) was okay, while the Knuckle Up (350++) was totally passable. When you fill up 60% of a drink with ice, all you can taste is a semblance of a cocktail. Disappointed, since I did have high expectations from the drinks here. I guess of all the places I’ve been to, Retox serves the most lip-smacking cocktails.

The Soya chaap (220+) on the other hand, was pretty good. Not as good as the one served at a small joint called Khalsa veg at Khadki, but definitely the second best in Pune. The plating of the dish is amazing in the form of a vertical tong suspended from a wooden artifact. It was great to look at and good to taste.

For mains, we ordered the Paneer Biryani (350+). This was simply amazing. Absolutely fluffy and flavorful rice with huge chunks of paneer were served in a small pressure cooker. The flavors are bang on and the quantity is easily sufficient for 3.
While the hubby refused another drink, I settled for ‘RumDev’ (200++) – a heady concoction of rum, coffee and chocolate. This one I loved!
The total bill came around 1700 (inclusive of an end number of taxes ). Albeit slightly disappointed with the drinks, we did have a good time and actually loved the food. So yeah, we shall definitely be going back here for fun nights..
