Scorching summers means frequent visits to ice-cream parlours are a must.
And even though our beloved Amul, Havmor and Naturals are evergreens, sometimes we look for that gourmet touch in ice-creams. Kuch hatke chahiye! This is where stores like Papacream fill the gap.
Be it Bubblegum, Salted Caramel or even Tiramisu, Papacream has a lot to choose from.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS – Situated on Dhole Patil road, obviously parking is an issue. Once you enter the place though, you’ll instantly fall in love with the pop theme. I especially loved the bright yellow merry-go-round at the door. They have a pretty quirky seating arrangement upstairs as well. However, no seating available at the ground level.
OFFERINGS – As part of their launch promotions in Pune, Papacream was offering free ice cream for a specified period. I made it there during such a promotion and got to sample 3 free flavours. Intrigued by it’ s offerings, I paid for 3 more and got to eat 6 different flavours. No, don’t be shocked yet. We were a group of 6. I didn’t devour all that alone!
So here goes my analysis for each flavor:
FERRERO CRUNCH (free sample)- Naam hi kafi hai to describe the flavor. This was one of their best offerings. Silky smooth ice-cream topped with a hazelnut. Highly recommended.
BUBBLEGUM CANDY FLOSS(150++) – Now this was perfecto! It tasted strongly of the Fusen gum I used to relish in childhood. Amazing flavour – not the generic cough syrup wala taste. Need more reason to have this – it comes encased in plenty of candy floss! Talk about childhood memories! Highly recommended.
CHOCOLATE GINGER CREME BRULEE (150++) – If you, like me, love to expose your palate to unconventional flavours, this right here should be your pick! The rich Chocolate flavor was perfectly complemented by the crunch and sharpness of the candied ginger. Highly recommended.
SPICY GUAVA SORBET (free sample) – This was the only flavor I did not enjoy at all. The flavor was bang on, no doubt. But guava did not work in a sorbet. They should have made it a creamy version instead. Disappointed.
SALTED CARAMEL POPCORN (150++) – The sight of this ice-cream made me drool!. A scoop of salted caramel ice-cream was covered with caramelised popcorn and a drizzle of caramel sauce. But it surely didn’t taste as good as it looked. Decent, but not exemplary. Pune has yet to get it’s fix of a good salted caramel ice cream, the kinds we get abroad.
MEETHA PAAN (free sample)- This had good flavour. But in a world where Paan ice-cream is available at every second outlet, this shouldn’t be your order at Papacreams.
PARTING THOUGHTS – Papacream makes for a great occasional treat. The ice-creams range from 70++ for small scoops from their classic range and 150++ for small scoops from the premium range. Their waffle sundaes are priced at 265++. That is definitely pricey. We ended up paying 500+ for 3 small scoops.
But if money is not as issue, or whenever you feel the urge to splurge, Papacream is worthy of a visit. I, for one, am looking forward to try their other premium flavours such as Bournvita and Horlicks Nutella Pancake.
